How It Works

The Machine Turns.
The Shaft Stands Still.

Generator shafts get worn or damaged when bearing inner rings or couplings spin on the shaft - and replacing the generator is expensive and time consuming. Our fully CNC-controlled machine repairs the shaft in place instead.

How the repair works

The machine is mounted directly onto the shaft. It then spins around the stationary shaft, machining the surface and gradually obtaining the required, agreed-upon tolerance levels.

Why repair instead of replace

  • The shaft is repaired uptower - no generator removal or replacement
  • Functionality of the drivetrain connection is restored to agreed tolerances
  • Further damage development is stopped
Technical Specifications
Equipment Fully CNC-controlled shaft-mounted machine
Method Machine rotates around the stationary shaft
Tolerances Machined to agreed tolerance levels
Typical damage Bearing inner rings or couplings spinning on shaft
Repair location Uptower, in place
No Replacement The shaft is repaired in place - avoiding an expensive, time-consuming generator exchange.
CNC Precision A fully CNC-controlled machine gradually obtains the required, agreed tolerance levels.
Repaired Uptower The machine mounts directly on the shaft inside the turbine.
Damage Stopped Early repair stops further damage from rings or couplings spinning on the shaft.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can a worn generator shaft be repaired without replacing the generator?

Yes. A fully CNC-controlled machine is mounted on the shaft and machines it back to the required, agreed tolerance levels - in place.

How does the machine repair a shaft that cannot rotate?

The machine itself spins around the stationary shaft, gradually machining the surface to tolerance.

What causes generator shaft damage?

Typically bearing inner rings or couplings spinning on the shaft, wearing down the surface.
